Understanding EQing
Equalization (EQing) allows you to shape and balance frequencies for a cleaner, more professional mix. Knowing when—and how—to cut or boost low, mid, or high frequencies is essential.
How to EQ Like a Pro:
- Low-Frequency Control (Bass): Cut the bass on the incoming track as you mix it in. Slowly reintroduce it during the transition.
- Mid-Frequency Focus: Use mids to highlight vocals or melodies. Be cautious not to overlap the mids of two tracks.
- High-Frequency Enhancements: Crisp high frequencies can brighten a mix. However, avoid harsh or piercing highs that may tire your listeners.
- Balance is Key: EQ both tracks in your headphones before gradually adding them to the main output.
Pro Tip: EQing is your best friend when mixing tracks that clash slightly in frequency. Use subtle tweaks to create harmony.
